Above all expectations, I received many fantastic travel photos for the contest. To just pick out five, was therefore not an easy task. But as promised, here are the winners, and the five best pictures.
First Place Winner
This interesting picture is taken by Leah from the blog: wentlooking.com . She says the following about the story behind the photo:
” I was hiking with some friends in the Peruvian Andes and we stopped near a tiny village for the night. It was freezing, and had also been raining, so we were wet and cold. This young boy sold us some materials for a fire. Here he is with my friend Jim helping to light it. ”
The full story you can read here.
The jury says that the framing technique used is outstanding in the picture. So is the focus technique. It is a natural photo with much expression in the faces. The photographer have captured a great moment. Beautiful colours. The story behind it is very nice. This photo demonstrate everything this blog is about: The places we go to, the people we meet and their stories, ways and cultures.
Based on this evaluation, Leah won with this picture the first price and a microfiber towel that she can use on her next year’s adventures around the world.
Second Place Winner
This romantic picture that won second place is taken by Mitsuko Higa. Here is the story behind the photo:
“The picture is taken on a bridge over Seine in Paris. Here couples go to attach a symbolic lock containing their names to the railing, before throwing the key into the river. A way to symbolize their unbreakable love. I was there with my boyfriend, for hang our lock.”
The jury means that the focus and recompose technique used taking the picture is very good. It is a detail captured photo. Beautiful colours. The jury also like a lot the story behind it. All the locks symbolize a story, of people from all over the world. And this in the city of love, Paris. In other words, the picture is linked well to a place, people and their stories.
Based on this jury decision, Mitsuko won the second place, and will receive a passport holder, in the colour of her choice.
Third Place Winner
This creative picture is taken by Allane Milliane from packingmysuitcase.com . This is what she writes about the picture:
Based on this evaluation, Allane won the third place in the contest, and will receive a passport holder in the post.
Fourth Place Winner
This interesting picture is taken by Ingeborg Lindseth, from the blog hamacareise.com . And this is her story behind the picture:
“In a city called, Damak, in eastern Nepal I was asked to play ludo with some boys in the street. Their counting skills were incredibly fast. It was definitely not the first time they had played this game. But to my big surprise I beat all of them.”
The jury liked that the picture is taken from a different viewpoint (from above). It makes it an interesting picture. They love the story behind it. It is also well linked to the idea behind this blog – meeting and interacting with the local people, and listening to their stories. The jury also like the natural expression the street kids have on the picture, like they are thinking hard. The photographer have captured an important moment.
Fifth Place Winner
This beautiful picture is taken by Gin from beautifuliceland.
“I was in borneo last year, and I was visiting Bau, a little mining town near Kuching. I was following my guide who left abruptly the group, then at one point he turned left, and was walking quite fast; I was trying to catch up, then he stopped to pee. I didn’t know he was going to pee I thought he wanted to check onto something. haha, that was so embarrassing ! I pretended to take picture of the plant while waiting for him, so he wouldn’t notice I had followed him. And the result turned out quite nice.”
The jury loved the funny story behind the photo. It made them laugh. The technique used taking this picture is outstanding.
I would like to thank everyone that sent in their travel pictures. I wish I could give all of you prices, as you all would deserve it for sending in your wonderful pictures. However, unfortunately I only had three prices to give away, this time.
To the rest of you, what do you like about these pictures?
