Once the best car for family trips. Today, most people just laugh when you say you travel in a 47 years old car.
However, this do not stop us.
Our beloved Volkswagen from 1968 is older than most of my followers on this blog, but is used on a daily basis. However, some weekends we take him out on longer trips. Like this weekend.
Saturday, after work my husband and I packed our luggage, sat us in the car, and started driving towards Tiquipaya. Here we had booked a night in a five star hotel for a relaxing and romantic weekend. Sauna, Jacuzzi and swimming pools. Dinner, champagne, roses, and chocolate. Next morning a delicious American breakfast. Then again, sauna, Jacuzzi and swimming pools. Then again, we sat us in the old, but solid Volkswagen and drove back home again.
This is something we should do much more often. Because who says you need a new fancy car for travel?
Though we are not as adventurous that we take the chance to travel the world in our VW truck from 1968. There are actually some brave people out there that do.
For example a young Austrian couple, Zainab and Dominikus, have used their Volkswagen bobble from 1963 named “Herbie” to visit 80 countries on six continents. Pretty impressive, right? http://herbiesworldtour.com
And then we have a family of three, Angela, Jason and nine years old Bode, that have travelled for 5 years and nearly 6 months in their Volkswagen bus from 1971. They have visited almost all the countries in North, Central and South America.http://bodeswell.org
While another young couple, Brad and Sheena have travelled since 2011 in their 1984 Volkswagen Vanagon, named “Nacho”. They have visited several countries in North, Central and South America. They also visited many countries in Asia, Europe and Africa. http://www.drivenachodrive.com
These three, are just a few of the old Volkswagens that are still on the road travelling the world. It would be fantastic to travel to other countries in our green VW 1968 truck as well. However, for now it will just be used for weekend trips around Bolivia. Though the car is great, unless I was travelling with a mechanic, I would never take the chance to go much longer with it. Would you?
