It is not often hubby and I get to really relax in the weekends. But this weekend we had two days and one night of luxury and romance at Gran Hotel Cochabamba. The best five star hotel in Cochabamba.
I have been to seminars and for eat at Gran Hotel Cochabamba many times. However, I have never been able to stay the night, before now. I always wanted to do so, and that is why I was not hard to ask when I got the chance.
We stayed in the presidential suite, and I was blown away when I first entry to the room. I have in my life slept in many hotels while on travels, I can’t even count how many, but I have never had such a nice room. It was even bigger than the apartment we live in now!
The room had two living rooms, a dining room, two bathrooms garnished with little touches such as complimentary toiletries, one of them with a huge bath-tub and walk-in shower. Furthermore, the room could offer us a king-size bed with a comfortable mattress and fluffy pillows, two flat screen TVs, walk-in closet, and even a treadmill. I got to see the other rooms, they had all the same elegant style, however they were a bit smaller.
Besides elegant and comfortable rooms, the hotel has many facilities to offer. My favourite is the outside temperate pool. Though the climate is good the whole year around in Cochabamba, it is really delicious to entry to the warm pool. Especially during night, I enjoyed the hot water. But also during the day it was refreshing to take a swim. It is a quiet and harmonic atmosphere in the whole hotel, that I really appreciated.
The hotel also have a great gym, with treadmills, and weights. They also have a small spa. They are now working on making it bigger together with a sauna. That was the only bad thing about our stay, that the sauna was not done yet, as we wanted to entry to that. But maybe next time we stay at the hotel, it will be done.
The hotel also have a great restaurant, which is one of my favourite restaurants in the city. Good food and service for an affordable price. It is also the only restaurant that is open 24/7. For dinner we ate pique macho, a traditional Bolivian dish. It tasted very good! But I love the club sandwich there, which I usually order. We also enjoyed a cocktail each to the dinner.
Furthermore, the hotel arrange many international for conferences, seminars and concerts. There are always some activities going on. This weekend it was a violin concert by a famous Russian artist, and we got to peek a little bit, and it sounded wonderful.
In the morning they serve a delicious american breakfast buffet. Fresh fruit and juice, eggs, bacon, sausages, bread, cakes, tea, serial, and coffee, are just some of the things you can serve yourself with.
Everyday they also offer a buffet for lunch, with traditional and international food. It is very popular due to it good reputation and tasty food.
And if you during the stay would like to go out, the hotel is located in the best area of town. Surrounded by all the best restaurants, museums, night clubs and shops in Cochabamba.
And, it is not only the luxuries rooms, facilities, good service and food, Gran Hotel Cochabamba have to offer. The hotel also have a long and interesting history, which I was unaware of before this stay.
It was built in 1911, and was first used as a church for monks. In 1940 the family Arauco bought the building and made it into a modern hotel. People from all Latin America came for enjoy their time in the hotel. They felt like it was like being in the countryside in the city, with its big gardens, and pool. Due to the hotel, the zone around it started to grow fast.
In 2008 the family Pavisic bought the hotel. The last years a lot have happened, and the hotel is now much bigger and they have constructed new rooms and facilities. But they have still kept a lot of the history of the hotel. They have for example preserved the original marble, decorations, the elegant and glamorous style and the original buildings.
The service is also very good at the hotel. The employees are very polite, though at bit serious and not pushy in any way, something I appriciate. We were also surprised with delicious fresh fruit in wonderful decoration that was delivered to our room.
And it is not not us that enjoyed a night of luxury night at Gran Hotel Cochabamba. Many celebrities have done the same. Bob Dylan (my very favourite), Micheal Jackson, Chávez the president of Venezuela, and Alexandre Pato. And the list goes on. Maybe I have slept in the same bed as some of them? At least, for one night, I felt like an important person like them staying in the presidential suite, being treated like a queen.
Based on my nice experience, I can recommend everyone that find themselves in Cochabamba to stay at this hotel. You can find all the information here:
