I have wanted to visit an ice bar since I read about it on some other travel blogs. Therefore when we arrived to Svolvær in Lofoten on our trip with Hurtigruten, and they told on the speaker that there was an ice bar just two minutes walk from the boat, I told my husband I would love to go there. And after walking around in the center we went to the bar – Magic Ice.
Unfortunatly, we just had one hour in Svolvær. Way too little to enjoy such a beautiful place, so when we arrived to the bar it was just 10 minutes until the ship was leaving and continuing further north on the norwegain coast. Also we had our little baby with us on the trip and as you most likely will agree a bar and ice cold enviroment is not good for an infant. So since I so badly wanted to entry to the ice bar, my husbad stayed outside with the baby while I went inside to see.
And honestly it was as cool as I expected. Everything was made of ice. Even the glasses. There were also many beautiful sculptures with colorful LED lighting inside. The sculptures are made of ice artists that goes to the own ice carving School of Magic Ice. Most of them have an university degree in art before they start the training in Lithuania. In the bar there was also a slide which seemed fun. But unfortunatly I did not have time to try it.
Just too bad I had so little time. Next time I would like to sit down and enjoy a drink.
The price to entry is 175 NOK (22,5 USD). In this a welcome drink is included, you are able to watch the art and borrow a winter poncho and gloves.
Opening hours are from 11:00 to 23:00 (24:00 Fri/Sat) from 15th of May to 15th of September.
From 16th of September to 14th of May the bar is open from 16:00 to 23:00 (24:00 Fri/Sat). In addition the bar is open when cruise ships are in port earlier.
Which is the coolest bar you have ever visited?
